Not an inch of dry clothes on me. Sweating to the max |
Last night, right after 2 games of 3-sets badminton matches with my men teammates for this coming SDA Sports Carnival (Inter-district, Sabah and Labuan), I was really, really exhausted. I almost fainted in the last 2 sets, but I pushed myself to the limit. We played for more than an hour without rest. Rest is such a luxury for me these days. My stomach couldn't hold more fuel that my growing body needs now. With just less than a can of 100plus as additional energy, we managed to win one out of 2 games. Probably thanks to our opponents' mercy. They played just enough to train us.
Went straight to the gym afterwards. It was 'back training' day for me. But I had to let it pass because I had no energy left to complete my workout. I accidentally made an extra glass of protein mass shake, which I had to drink instead. Forced myself to drink, it tasted awful. It left me feeling full of an hour. Usually, after intense workout such as last night, I would have to refuel within an hour to avoid extreme hunger and prevent my muscle loss. The protein shake made me skip that. So I went home, took a shower. Right before stepping into bathroom, I started to feel cold and sweating, like I was going to be drenched in my sweat.
I proceeded with my bath anyway, stepping out equally sweating cold sweats, almost couldn't get myself dressed, too weak to do so. Fell into my bed and laid there for a while. Then sat down and grabbed milk cookies which I conveniently put in my bedroom. Finished a row before managing to stand up again, and had a mug of hot Milo. All the while my world was spinning and I felt like I was going to faint. Then, after I gained a little bit of energy, I ate omelette leftover and a bit of rice. My head started to ache. My body couldn't recover fully, so I guessed it was time to rest for the night.
I learned 2 things yesterday. 1. I had to eat more, and more frequently. My body needs more than ever before. It has changed. I have to change too. 2. You can't rely too much on supplementation. I, personally feel that protein supplement is not for me, at least for the time being. I have few months more towards the end of this year. My 2015 resolution should be shaping up pretty good right now, and protein shake is definitely not part of it. Additional lesson, listen to your body. Push to the limit, not beyond that it may hurt you more than it benefits you.
