Unique Papaya |
My year end 'holiday' includes a 'visit' to small rubber plantation, well, a very small one, owned by my friend. A little help to clear the weeds and bushes and bamboo trees was all I could offer. On the way back, we stopped a while. My friend was so excited to show me a tree, papaya tree, which was a bit weird to me.
It was a 'male' papaya tree, the one that normally does not produce any fruit, just small flowers to assist production of fruit in 'female' trees. However, it seems like this one particular tree, which was a male, 'changed' its decision halfway and acted like 'female' tree and produced fruits. Well, since it changed midway, the fruits produced were a bit oddly placed, hanging instead of placed right at the tree trunk, amidst the leaves.
I know this is not extremely weird as I am sure it happens elsewhere too, but it was great to see this rare happening first hand. Lucky there was no ripe fruit yet. I wonder if it tastes unique too.
And I've got to touch them |
Being born and grew up in a family of a farmer, an orchard...and specifically papaya are not foreign to me. But...no, I never seen this papaya. It is indeed...weird..but interesting.
