This topic will come every test/exam season. My Nicole is in Primary 1 now, in a Chinese school, nonetheless. I know the challenges and high expectation involved when schooling my child in this kind of school, but I have confident in her. She is just like me, a natural victor, who will tap her potential to the fullest but in smart way, to get the best of her without pressuring herself too much. All she needs is encouragement, motivation and recognition.
Like I said, she was just like me, a fighter, in academic. She was really good in Bahasa Malaysia and English that I don't really have to put too much effort in revising with her on these two, but one thing that Nicole and I are different is, she is quite weak in Math. I am not sure what causes it, could be she is 'naturally' having difficulty to learn Math, or is it ME who do not know how to really, properly teach her.
Naturally (for me, at least) in every exam, I will have my own dummy result, an expectation, based on her performance in class, her homework and quizzes. For her, here's my dummy result:
Chinese : Fail (maybe just below 45)
Math : Barely pass (50+)
BM: Pass (Distinction)
BI : Pass (Distinction)
PM : Barely pass (50+)
Note: All those 'Fail' and 'Barely pass' are because of her weak Chinese. Those subjects are taught in Chinese.
Well, much to my pride (though I didn't really show it to her, don't want to encourage her to easily contented with her result when the effort shown is not reaching at least 90%), she has proven me wrong. Thank God for this. Her actual results:
Chinese : Barely pass (50+)
Math : Distinction
BM : Distinction
BI : Distinction
PM : Pass (Either 70+ or 80+, can't really remember)
So, dear Nicole, I am really glad I am wrong. You really make me proud, and I know, this is just half of your full potential. I pray that whatever talent God has given you, you will utilize it to the fullest, to glorify His name, and shine His truth to all around you.
God bless you.
Maybe the time hasn't come yet Veey. She is only primary one...get her a break. Perhaps she hasn't aware of her full potential yet.
ReplyDeleteI think I never told you, I was one of the most 'stupid' in my class during my primary 1-3. Always got the last number in class...and was bullied by the popular, pretty and vibrant girls in my class. One day in my primary 3, I suddenly got number 1, and from that moment on..i only get number 1-3. They didn't stand a chance. hehehe. Masuk secondary..is a different story. I don't stand a chance againts you. hahahah
Hah..that will be my balm. What a great rebound. I experienced that too, only the other way around. I am sure you know you did stand a chance...back in Form 4, when I forgot everything but my hockey. Hehe..that the only time and I remember you told me that finally you can beat me. Hehe...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, met her teacher, and she said Nicole is a very hardworking girl. The only problem is her Chinese. Recommended to attend tuition on Chinese. I am now searching for the class that suits her schedule. I don't want her to be overly exhausted. Even the moment I mentioned my intention to her, she was excited. Hmmm...this is so unlike me. I don't like to study too much.
I beat you? when? How? Did I lose my memory already? I cannot remember ever beating you.
ReplyDeleteWow...i never excited being sent to tuition. Hahahaha. Good for nicole that she has that kind of enthusiasm about study.
I will never forget the day I had to lose to more than a person for the first time in my school years. It was our first semester's exam, 1994, where I only managed to get 9th place in our class. Disappointed beyond words, slowly worked my way through to the top again. Luckily, mission accomplished.
