Nicole (#2983) with Aunt Betty, Sis Kyra and Val... |
These are the tired faces of the proud participants (among others) in the 10,000 steps held on the date above. It covered a distance of 6.9 km, starting from the Taman Rimba (recreational park), towards Queen Elizabeth Hospital, off to Jalan Kopungit, Lido and finally back to the starting point. I participated in the program, although I am not in this picture.
What made me feel so very proud that day is that my Nicole, despite my discouragement stating that it was going to be a very long and tiring walk for preschooler like her, insisted on joining, and amazingly, she managed to walk more than half the distance all by herself. The other less than half, I had to be her 'hulk' of the day, carrying her 18.9 kg weight on my back. It was tiring for me, but it paid well, worthy to my swelling heart...with pride and love. She maybe barely 6 years old (5 years 9 months +-), but she has great fighting spirit that I hope someday will be part of her survival kit in this very, very challenging world.
As a token of appreciation, and my way of congratulating her effort, we get to be rewarded with ice cream of our choice, bought at Petronas station, just a few meters towards the finishing line.
Upon returning home, she was very much excited to have her Certificate, and wanted to write her name on it, herself. This is her great achievement, I think she deserved it, and more.
God bless you, dear Nicole.
