I have so many things in mind I want to talk about, but let me arrange them one by one, concentrate on a topic, one at a time, or otherwise I will age much more quickly than I should be.
Recognize this logo? I doubt there's still anyone out there who happen to 'know' even the littlest of internet to not knowing this.
It may have cooled down a bit now, but earlier this year a rumour (more like a hoax to me) stirred quite a sizzling topic on facebook. Will the famed social site be shut down (for good) by end of March 2011?
My personal response to this? Honestly, I had mixed thoughts in mind. However, the positive side overshadowed the other. What I thought may not matter much, but when I read others response,s that makes me wonder, is there anything on this earth that has absolutely nothing to do with facebook?
It's kind of sickening (apology for the strong word used) to learn how many people live most of their days (and nights) on facebook. Comments like "Oh no, what will I do without facebook?", or "Life will be so boring without it." or comments of different phrases and words but the same meaning, nonetheless, their lives won't be the same without facebook, more like moving into darkness kind of feeling.
Well, while I agree that facebook did a lot positive things to our lives, like bringing in people together, promote easy tracking of old friends or acquaintance or family, rocket fast sharing of information, allow more space for self expression, its existence did us some bad things too.
Lost of privacy is one. No argument about that, eventhough one may choose to 'privatise' all his information, but then if that's the case, his facebook account won't function as effectively as it supposed to be. Then, more than often the freedom to express self or comment on others leads to unwelcomed criticism, or maybe even argument, the negative ones, and could also lead to 'cold war' between individuals, or even friends.
While facebook may enable us to express self, it also provide means for others to know you more. If you are not careful, your post, status whatsoever make it easier for others to know what kind of person you really are. The one thing I am afraid will happen, it's not the good side of you others will see, but it's the other side, if you know what I mean. I met and knew few individuals for that case. It may not be their intention, but hey, what you say portrays what you really had in mind, and how your mind works, right?
Personally, I have nothing against facebook. I regularly checked my wall, keep myself updated by reading others' post. Honestly, at least twice a day I will take less than 5 minutes to browse the site, and if there's any interesting post I would like to explore, it may be extended to about 10 minutes.
To sum things up, it's a good thing Mark thought of setting up Facebook. However, dear friends, facebook users, utilise the opportunity wisely. There are things worth sharing, but too much sharing may irk others more than amuse or update them.
Be wise.
I agree with you my friend. I use to update my fb status almost everyday with what I had in mind. But, reading other people's status and realize they 'scream' to the world how their mind works, and what kind of person they are, I was terrified! I don't think I wish my inner or outer self soooo laid bare. So, I limited myself to post just some quotes from somewer or just a simple good morning or yang sewaktu dengannya to make my account look not so boring.
ReplyDeleteBut, yeah..we cannot deny that fb is a powerful web that unite a long time 'friend'. That's what is good about it.
Yeah, totally agree with you too. Those early mistakes we commit while we were still new to FB should be forgiven. We are learning creatures, we learn from mistakes and make sure they won't be repeated again.
ReplyDeleteFor me, share what's really worth sharing, that includes greetings too. But not too much complaints or anything, bear in mind, people's minds have a limit. They can only take that much, and not more.
Make a good and wise use of technology. :)
I remember a friend in my list who always use a status in fb as a tool for boasting bout his money. Something like..'today I shop for this, this and this (all expensive and branded material), and now..left RM?K for saving.'
ReplyDeleteWell, I know he work as what and I can guest the range of his salary. That is a big amount of saving, it's impossible to make unless he is a stingy human being and never share what he got with his family.
But even if he is rich..it's not wise to write that kind of statement soooooo...frequently. I end up hide his post coz I couldn't take it anymore. So..annoying to be honest.
I'll do the same if I were you. Already put few people in 'hide' @ hidden list, couldn't stand the thought of having to bear with their update every few hours, or minutes. Imagine reading status like 'Oh my gawd, so funny to see my husband laugh at......whatever it was..', or update the status like, 'now going to hospital', few minutes later, 'almost reach hospital. etc..etc,' then just as you think you've had enough, 'now am waiting for the doctor....', and on and on and on.....Annoying.
ReplyDeleteAnd boasting, yeah, I have one or two, FB friends like that. Those people just worth ignoring, if you ask me.
Are we bad mouthing here? I hope not over the limit. Hehehe...could be let this thing pent up so long that it burst at first hint of opportunity.
We should meet, I guess, too much talking. :))
Yes..we are. Hahaha. Never mind..as long as no name mentioned..it's still within the limit I guess. Hahahaha.
