Since the last time I 'complained' about my new, more chaotic pace of life, nothing has changed yet. I still am struggling to balance my time for both family and career, and myself and my spiritual life. Thank God, I survived, so far, at least.
Yet, funny, amidst dues and new responsibilities that stuck to me like magnet, I still manage to find time to read books. This is my ultimate hobby, from the moment I could read, until now. I used to make frequent visits to our State Library in Sandakan, but now it is next to impossible to borrow a book without having to pay the overdue fines. Since books are meant to be kept for a very long time, and I intend to pass them down to my children, now I usually buy books. Besides, it is pleasing to look at..hehe...like a balm to my eyes.
Enough talking, now let me introduce to my latest additions, my new collection. One common theme which my close friends know I would choose, is romance. I used to love historical romance, but it is literally historical. Nothing much change. The hero usually big, muscular and undeniably handsome, rugged but soft at heart, and the heroin was, of course, beautiful, kind, gentle though sometimes can be quite aggressive and naughty too. Boring....but sometimes, for a change, I would love to read them too. Now I am more into modern romance fiction, something closer to reality.
So, I will share with you 3 of the latest ones. First, by my favourite author, Nicholas Sparks. I was hooked from the moment I watched a film based on his book of the same title "The Message in The Bottle". This one, though, closer to his teenage romance book, A Walk To Remember. My book, is the one below.
Nicholas Sparks - The Last Song
No need for long review, for me the book delivers exactly what Nicholas always do, a story close to my heart, touching, exciting and at the same time, he brings all kinds of love into one single plate. Those who are lazy to read, just watch the movie starring Miley and Liam.
Second, Sophie Kinsella. This is the 3rd book I bought written by her. I like her sense of humour, her style of writing. She makes things as complicated as love so much simpler and enjoyable. No heavy words, not much metaphore, just simple words. Love it.
Sophie Kinsella - Remember Me
A story about a career woman, had an accident and trauma caused her to forget 3 years of her life, the recent ones. Exciting and made me craving for more. Hehehe... A page turner, indeed, I recommend this.
Last but not least, Judith McNaught. One of the author of the earliest historical romance books I loved to read. The 2nd or 3rd in my collection, from her, and this is a modern romance fiction. She still clings to the conventional way of story telling, but just like I said earlier, after those two modern romance books, I need to have a break. It is either Judith, or Julie Garwood. This is good, but maybe not the best. The storyline, can be predicted if you are a fan of Judith McNaught. This book is about a 'wickedly' handsome and very rich but estranged (by his family) man and a mismatched restaurateur. Love at first encounter, then had a great time, then something came between them, a huge misunderstanding and finally, a reunion. The final reunion....you just have to read it yourself to know.
So, there they are. If you think I have given you an interesting sneak peek that entice your 'taste buds' to go out and get the books, good. Every bookstore has them, I think, and maybe our library also has them, if you manage to get it before anyone else.
Enjoy.........
As you know, we share the hobby my friend. Guess what? Now I have 3 library membership card. Sandakan library, KK library and the latest one..Labuan library. You know the other day..one of Sdk librarian talk like this.."ohh, you have grown up and working now. Good to know that. I still remember you in ur school uniform." Hahha..he even remember my name. And..I agree with you, I start bored with Historical Romance too..so..I borrow other kinds of book too..beside at least one historical romance. heheheh. It's bored but I still hooked to it.
ReplyDeleteThat's who we are.. :) At least you have time to go to library. Maybe once in a while you can try to borrow something from their Audio Video Collection. Heard that this department get lesser attention these days, due to rapid advancement in internet and technology. That way you can at least spend some of your free time to watch movies.
ReplyDeleteWell, we change together with time. Our preference also change. At least we know we are still the same us from the past, at least part of us.
