Know Yourself

I am currently attending a course, Leadership and Organizational Management Course.  This course is, for now, intended for our Department's senior officers, probably because the need for more effective and efficient leaders is much more pressing these days.

Honestly, this course hasn't met the expectation set beforehand, yet.  I am still hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel though.  The content is actually very beneficial, and interesting...it's just the deliverance is quite disappointing.  I was sleepy most of the time.  Today, I guess is an exception.  We were asked to rate ourselves, to evaluate our priority, our style.  Given 6 characteristics, Theoretical (Logic), Economic, Aesthetic (Arts and sense), Social (Charity), Political (Power) and Religious. I ranked Religious as my first priority, and Economic as my last priority.  Then we were given test to, maybe more appropriately, rank ourselves.  The real result, yes, Religious is still my first style, priority.  But to my surprise, Aesthetic is following very closely behind.  Am I that...aesthetic, kind of person?  However, come to think of it, I value beauty in a very special way.  For me, beauty is much, much more than just skin deep, or that of what we can see with our eyes.  Beauty is something that can be felt with your heart, in your heart.  So, yes, I think the test is right.

That's the first part of the exercise.  Then, we were asked to ask 3 of our friends to assess us, for them to rank our (my) priority, according to what they perceive I would do.  As expected, none of the 3 person I asked can predict or rank exactly the same as what I rank myself.  I, in turn, was asked to assess my roommate for this course, fellow course mate from Malacca.  I did, as I honestly think of her, give assessment.  At the end of the class, she came up to me and told me...she was really amazed.  What happened was, it turned out that I managed to rank all the 6 characters, style...in exact manner, order, as she ranked her own self!  She told me, it was amazing to learn I could know her priority really well considering we only being room mates for just 2 days.

Honestly, although it may sound like nothing, I was pretty amazed myself.  If that's really true, then thank God above for the gift.  I pray that He can show me the right way to use it, for the benefit of others and to fulfill His plan upon me.

All in all, it's pretty cool sometimes to get others' help in helping us to really know who we really are.
